Cool things to do in the summer with your children

Things to Do in the Summer

1. Go to the museum

Museum during the summer sometimes offers free or discounted events. This will allow your children to be able to explore any topic they like. They could learn about science, history, sports, food, or art. Some places have museums just for children.

2. Go to a library

Libraries usually have a summer reading program for children.  Most have evening events the whole family can attend.  Your local library is not just a source of information but also a place where you can get free movies and books. Check out your local library to see what new movies or books they may for the summer. Also, ask your local librarian what events they are having for the summer.

3. Have a book club.

This was something me, my mom and sister would do. We picked a book that all of us know and love. We read it and then discussed the things we read. To make it a little bit more fun we would have snacks and drinks. This is a great way to get kids reading during the summer.

Books Some New and Classic

The World Belong to Us

Sari-Sari Summers

The Case of Musical Mishaps

Anne of Green Gables

Melody Lifts Her Voice

Mystery at Mermaid Lagoon

The Boxcar Children

Ella Enchanted

4. Make popsicles

The temperatures are going up. This means you crave certain treats. One of those treats is popsicles or ice lollies. Make some healthy versions by using some delicious fruit, yogurt, and honey. Put the mixtures in popsicle molds and add wooden sticks. Then freeze for six hours. Then you can enjoy your nice treat!

5. Watch a Summer Movie Marathon

Get your favorite movie or watch a few classic summer movies. Here are some the movies you can start with:

"Matilda"

"The Sandlot"

"The Wizard of Oz"

"The Parent Trap (either version)"

"Mary Poppins"

"Annie"

"The Sounds of Music"

"The Whiz"

"Paddington Bear"

"It Takes Two"

"A Goofy Movie"

"Campnowhere"

"My Girl"

"Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's is Dead"

"Heavyweights"

"Babe"

"The Little Mermaid"

"Troop Beverly Hills"

6.  Have a family garden

Want your children to get closer to nature? Have a garden. It can be flower garden, vegetable, or fruit. Whatever suits your needs and your child's interest. This can allow them to learn about science. Learn how plants grow. What they need survive and how they are beneficial.

7. Host a game night

Bring out your favorite games or buy your favorite games! Don’t forget to ask your guest to bring their favorite games. Have some of your favorite snacks and drinks for your whole family can enjoy.

Some of my favorite games:

Guess Who

Encanto Game

Clue

8. Have a Detox from Technology

Spend a day at home without using any of your technology. Spend time children's fun activities.  You can also use this time to spend time alone just relaxing or even learning a new thing. Whatever you do take time to enjoy your life and those around.

9. Outdoor artwork

My students love to do murals outside. They use the chalk to do drawings or murals. Some even write letters, their name or alphabet. You can also use washable paint or watercolors outside on your sidewalk.

Other Sidewalk Chalk:

10.Painting

I notice that most children enjoy using paint. I believe it allows them to be creative. It is also helps them to be a little calmer. Painting is an active that keeps them occupied as well.

11. Bubbles

Bubbles is another activity that keeps them active. Some children enjoy running around and trying to catch or pop them.

Other Bubbles to try:

 12. Magnetic Tiles

Want endless fun for your child? Try magnetic tiles. These tiles allow them to create a ton of things. From houses to cars it is some many things they can do. They can also use the magnetics to test and see if anything around the house is magnetic. It is best to allow children over 3 to use these.

13. Magnetic dress up dolls

This is another favorite of small children. This includes community service members. The students usually are able to match the outfits together. Some on the other hand get a little creative. It is a fun way to learn about uniforms. Melissa and Doug have a ton of sets that you can choose from.

15. Pop- Its

Kids love Pop-Its? I know most children do. This fidget toy can be used indoor and outdoors. You can make a game out of it and write letters or numbers on the Pop-Its. Or you can just like them enjoy popping it.

16. Drawing

Art is one of the most entertaining things your children can do. They can use these colored pencils to write or draw. The wonderful thing about these you can erase your mistakes.

17. Play-doh

Sensory activities keep children occupied. They can build things or just make a simple ball. It helps build their fine motor skills. It can get messy, so I recommend your use mats when they play with play doh.
