Budget Friendly Activities to Do this Winter










Winter is almost here. Most thing that winter is boring month. But there are plenty of holidays and events one can go to during this time. Some of us may not be able to go outside a lot because of the cold or snowy weather. But there are indoor activities one can do. 





I created a list of things a person can do this winter. Each month I have a list of things you can do. Some are free and others are budget friendly. 

December 





Eat and Bake Desserts 


You can bake your favorite treats. This month there are tons of recipes you can try. I am going to make cranberry and chocolate chip cookies this week. 



If you are not a person that loves to bake you can support your local bakery or stores.


Cook for your family/friends. 


Cook dinner for your loved ones. It can be anything you enjoy making. 


Going to the movies 


A lot of families to go the movies during the Christmas Holidays. I know I am looking forward to seeing the Color Purple with my family. 


Donate food or toys


This time of year is a good time to donate items to a charity or food kitchen. Check your local organizations to see who needs what for the holidays. 

Listen to Music


Rather it is Christmas music or whatever music you desire, play it. It will help boost your mood. 


Send or give holiday cards.


It may be too late to send a card, but it is not too late to hand deliver a card. It will just let them know that you care. 


Look at lights.


If your neighborhood or a neighborhood close by has lights you can look at the display. 


Get some rest. After all of the holiday parties and events, you will need to rest. 



Go to a parade. 

Some towns have Christmas parades. You will get a chance to see beautiful floats, Santa, cars, bands, choirs, and community leaders.


Make Gingerbread Houses

A new family tradition for us is making gingerbread houses. 


Go to historic site event or museum. 


Some historic sites or museums have Christmas events. You get a chance to try food from that time period and see costume historic interpreters Some even sing carols. Keep in mind you might have to pay a fee for some events. Some places there is no fee but a donation box. 


Wear your holiday pajamas. 


This is a tradition that has been going on for a while.  I think it is cute thing for families to do. 


Hang Christmas Stockings. 

My favorite Christmas Tradition is to hang stockings. I love how our parents and grandparents put toys, candy, and accessories in the stockings. I think it is good tradition to keep. 


Read Christmas or Winter themed Books 


I know I have been enjoying the reading the Christmas books I picked. It really gets a person in the mood for Christmas. You can a lot of books from the local library or at buy them. 


Drink Cocoa


Rather you make itself or buy it coco is sure to keep you warm and happy. If you don't like cocoa, you can always drink your favorite drink. 


Do random acts of kindness

Do something nice for someone else. You can make them something, buy something for them, or just be kinder. It will help someone else and make you feel better. 

Decorate your tree


If you like Christmas trees you can decorate it however you want. Rather you like lights, bows, or ornaments go all out. 


Take photos


Don't forget to take photos of some of the things you need. That way you can look back at the fun you had doing these things and more. 








January 




Set your planner 


Right down every appointment and event in your planner or calendar. 


Have a spa day 


Rather it is at home, or you go to a spa, just take time to pamper yourself.  

Drink Hot chocolate or Tea



Movie night at home 


Watch your favorite movies at home if you don't feel like going out. You can watch alone or with others. Just don't forget the snacks. 



Sleep 


Get some rest. 


Play board games 


Another thing you can do at home. Event your friends or family to join you some board games. 

Wear some comfortable pajamas

Find you some comfortable pjs to wear at home. 


Make a playlist.

A playlist to help you stay motivated. Rather it is playlist for workouts or when you need encouragement choose music you love. 


Donate clothing 

Donate your gentle used or new clothing to a charity. 



Take down your Christmas Tree

Take down your Christmas decorations or at least decorate the tree differently for the month of February. 



Make your favorite meals 

Cook your favorite meals that nourish your body and soul. 


Read books 

Rather it is new releases, or your old favorites take time do something that will help you relax. 


Random Acts of Kindness

Do a small act to help someone or yourself. 


Get some rest

Take some time to rest your body and mind. You can't help no one else if you are rested. 


Listen to music 


Rather it just to relax or help you start your the new year out, listen to your favorite songs. Also take time to listen to new songs, you may find a new favorite. 

Take care of your skin


The winter months can be harsh on your skin. That is why you need to take care of your skin cleaning it, exfoliating it, and moisturizing it. 

Take photos 



Things might have gotten disorganized after the holidays. This a chance to get rid of some clutter and organize your space. 

Take time to breath 


Take a deep breath, unclench your body, your face, and breath again. 












February 








Spend time with loved ones 

February is the month of love. Spend time with your loved ones and celebrate with them. 

Learn about Black History 

February is Black History month you can read or learn about historical figure.


Eat Chocolate 

Chocolate is going to be everywhere. Find one that you like. 



Watch a Movie 

Romantic movies will be on tv and most likely on the silver screen. 


Eat Comfort Food 

Wintertime is the perfect time to eat dishes that bring you comfort. Foods that keep you warm and cozy if you have spent time in the cold weather. 


Treat Yourself

Do whatever makes you feel better. Rather is treating yourself to your favorite meal. Taking care of your body. You can also get your sleep and rest. 

Send Cards


Give them a card, mail a card, or e send a card. Just let a person you love or care about that you are thinking about them. You can buy them or make them. 


Wear red or pink 

If you want to get in the mood of Valentine's Day' you can wear red or pink. 


Say something good 

Say something good about someone else or yourself. 


Buy Girl Scout Cookies 


One of favorite things to do. It actually starts in January, but I like to get some in February too.  You have to look up your local Girl Scout organization to see when cookies are available. I love the Samoas and Lemonades. 


Eat Brunch 

You can go out to your favorite restaurant for brunch, order food, or cook it. Have brunch with family, friends, your significant other, or by yourself. 


Make Pastries 

If you can cook, make some pastries. There is muffin day, sticky bun (Feb. 21(, banana bread (Feb. 23)

Go to the Library 

National take your child to the library is in February. The first Saturday in February parents can take their children to the library. It is a way to encourage literacy and community. Even if you don't have children support your local library any chance you get. 


Buy Flowers 

Buy flowers for someone else or get some for yourself. 


Take time to Rest 



Listen to love songs 


If you don't love romantic songs listen to music, you like. 



Go on date 

Go out with your significant other. Take a solo date or go out with friends. Spend time with the people you care about.


Eat Pizza 

National Pizza Day is on Friday, February 9th. Some places may be offering deals on pizza. You can also make one yourself from scratch or buy a premade crust.
