Ebony Grace Livingston is the main character in The Divorcetante. She is a successful event planner. She wants to make a comeback in her business after her divorce. Since her husband had an affair with a local celebrity, her name has been in the press. The mistress and her former mother-in-law want to destroy her perfect reputation. She initially had an ideal reputation, a product of her upbringing.
Livingston attempted to follow her mother’s rules. She was involved in the debate society. While she preferred not to, her mom insisted. She even allowed her mother to pick her spouse. Now she is not allowing anyone to control her. This involves her meticulously planning the best event.
Her next event is for a friend. Her friend is getting married to her ex-brother-in-law. Now Ebony must deal with her ex-mother-in-law. Ebony must also deal with her former flame, Lincoln. Lincoln is the contractor for renovating the wedding venue.
Lincoln had amazing chemistry while they were in college. However, Ebony did not follow her heart. Now she has the chance to do what she wants with her life. Her initial collaboration with Lincoln presented challenges. But soon they learn to work together.
Analysis
For a while, Ebony was unhappy with her life. She often let her mother control almost every aspect of her life. Ebony let her mother dictate her choices, from attire to boyfriends. I believe she was also not happy in her marriage. Her husband did not seem to have the best chemistry. They married each other because that was what their families expected. If they had chosen their spouses, their lives would have been less scandalous.
Thoughts
What I love about this book is how Ebony was working on her business and her life. She does not allow her mother-in-law to interfere with her business or life. Instead, she tells the truth about her in-laws. Ebony’s social media posts demonstrate her strength and resilience. I love how she does not allow anyone to control her.
She once allowed her mother to control her. However, she’s now pursuing her dreams. I enjoy seeing her pursue her passions, which include Lincoln. Their chemistry was beautiful, and I enjoyed reading it. In short, it was a helpful guide on self-discovery and maximizing your life.
