Book Review of Lilith
Thank you to Net Galley, Tantor Audio, and Alexandria House
for the opportunity to listen to this advanced audio copy of Lilith.
Introduction
Lilith is in her forties and is unmarried. Lilith is in a
long and unhappy relationship with Marlon. She is leaving him after 12 years,
not even thinking of the time she wasted. Nor does she consider the lavish
house he owns. Nothing can make her stand and listen to his empty promises of marriage.
She is putting all her energy into her work. Lilith
owns a plus-size fashion boutique. She plans to live in the apartment over the
boutique. Her family thinks this is a bad idea. But she does not listen and
soon regrets her decision.

I like how the Alexandria House wrote Lilith. House
characterized Lilith as being headstrong and beautiful, like her mother. She is
known for being a workaholic. Lilith also excels at hiring company personnel. However,
she has a tender heart. Marlon’s outburst has left her deeply disturbed. It
even made her feel bad. At one time, she feels bad about leaving such a
“trusting man”. Marlon appeared to her as a composed and dependable
person. Yet, his conduct suggests something else.
But she does not let Marlon and her failed relationship get
her down. Instead, she focuses on her business, employees, and coworkers. When
she starts her life over on her own terms, she no longer has freedom. Now she has
to deal with the violent and obsessive Ray.
Ray is the main male character. He helps her when she
collapses at the murder scene. But he is a morally gray character. He protects
her without her consent and often oversteps his bounds. He takes over
communication with others and watches her. Ray behaves like this because of his
job. He claims he is protecting her and loves her. You can tell that she loves
her because he takes care of her physical needs. I really did like that aspect
of him. I think Lilith could decide for herself if she were given a chance. In
the end, she proves she can do things for herself.
I appreciate the author’s writing of the side characters.
Each side character has their own personality. One way of doing this was
through the narrators she picked. The narrator reads with such emotion that I
can imagine the scene before me.
The people side characters who worked for Lilith were
hilarious, especially Justice. She is a real animal in her storytelling. I love
the roasting and banter between her sisters, father, and stepmother. I like her
sister’s description of Marlon as having tiny hands. Her father thought he was
a little off and did not make sense.
Overall, Alexandria House does an excellent job of creating action
and drama in just over two hundred pages. When I thought I had the who-did-what
figured out, House surprises me with another twist. That is why I gave it four
stars. This is an excellent book for someone who loves thrillers and steamy
love scenes. This book is right for you.
