Review of Jack Girlz Atlanta

A Review of the Thriller Jack Girlz Atlanta

I am so thankful to NetGalley, Black Odyssey, and BriAnn Danae for giving me an advance reader copy of Jack Girlz Atlanta.

Representation: Black family, Black side characters.

TW: Sale of drugs, domestic violence in the past tense, violence, extortion, stalking, sexual scenes, murder in the past tense.

What would you do if someone were extorting you because of your family's illegal activities?

Would pay them off? Go to the police officers? Or fight back?

This is what three sisters have to face when one is blackmailed and harassed by someone who knows their families' secrets.

Brief introduction

This book focuses on the story of three sisters: Hazel, Mia, and Teyona, the main characters. The three sisters love each other. They do, however, irritate one another. One cause of this is keeping secrets from one another. It stems from their father, Matthew. Matthew owns a pharmaceutical company and participates in schemes. Since his daughters collaborate with him, they are also involved. Matthew even has his wife involved in his web of lies.

Kimberly and Matthew’s relationship is tumultuous. Lies and betrayal characterize their relationship. The book gradually unveils each of their secrets.

Analysis

This is the first time I have read a book by BriAnn Danae. I liked reading it. The author wrote twists and turns in the story. The suspense held my attention. I also loved seeing the character development of the main and side characters.

Hazel was fearless and confident. She examined their father’s behavior even as a child. I liked her from the start. When her mother had an accident, she questioned him from the start.

Mia and Teyona have won me over. Mia’s growth was the most significant because she had to mature. She was in denial about their parents’ behavior but had to face it. Teyona also had to deal with the biggest secret of them all, and she managed it well, considering.

Kimberly was a victim of violence but could stand up to Matthew. Matthew was the perfect villain in the book.

Conclusion

Miss Danae did a wonderful job writing an intriguing story. Danae handled triggering topics with care. For example, the topic of domestic violence. She did not victim-blame. Kimberly gave reasons why she stayed. She gave reasons for the motives of each character. Then allowed each one to develop over time. This is an excellent book for those who love suspense and character development.
