Book Review of the The Princess and P.I

 The Princess PI

Thank you to NetGalley, Nikki Payne, Berkley Publishing Group, and Nikki Payne for sending me the advanced copy of ‘The Princess PI’.

A Book Review of The Princess and the PI by Nikki Payne

Introduction

Fiona Addai is ready for revenge. She wants to honor her brother’s death by getting something back that was stolen from him. Since it is the anniversary of his murder, she has to do it today. Fiona has been preparing for this day.

Fiona is not there by herself. Her father is there, but Fiona does this on her own. She is close to accomplishing her goal.

But the plan goes wrong. Instead of getting back what was stolen from her brother, someone is murdered. Now Fiona is accused of doing it. Fiona must clear her name, but she doubts that anyone will help her. But someone wants to help her.

Former detective Maurice Bennett wants to help. Maurice is tired of cleaning up rich people’s messes or protecting them. This murder is the most interesting case he has had so far. Additionally, he has personal reasons for wanting to get involved. But he also thinks she can help him solve a case that has been haunting him. Ever since he received tips about corruption, he has been obsessed with it. He believes that solving the murder Fiona is accused of will tie up any loose ends in his previous case. He also finds Fiona intriguing

Thoughts

Fiona Addai’s character is complicated. I love that Fiona is not perfect. Even though she is a shy woman, she has passions and is ambitious. She wants to be a detective.
Her detective skills are good for a novice. She can observe and read people accurately. Her inexperience with life and the way she dresses make people doubt her abilities. Some even mock her.
This works to her advantage at times. That way, she can discover the truth without blowing her cover. She uses Reddit to help solve cases. She keeps it a secret because her family would condone such activities.
Her father is the one who would disapprove the most. She often hides things from him but tells others. His controlling behavior causes her to do things she does not believe in. Some may judge her harshly, but she is trying to survive. She knows what happens when you go against her father’s church.
Maurice is the only one who can see how complicated Fiona is, but he appreciates her flaws. Maurice has flaws, too, and Fiona does not judge him for them. Fiona can be herself around him. She can discuss her detective skills and past. He encourages her to try the things she wants to do. He even understands it after encountering her father and sister. That is why he pushes her to stand up against them. He also allows her to go. At times, she does, but fear keeps her from going too far. Fiona has every right to be afraid.

Terrifying situations take place in this story. These events make the book exciting. Some are unexpected. This leads me to reevaluate the potential murderer. Numerous individuals are concealing information. This kept me engaged to see what would happen at the end of the book. The sex scenes are also intriguing.

I was surprised the author would allow Maurice and Fiona to be spicy. But Payne wants readers to be shocked.

Conclusion

This book is excellent for people who want mystery, romance, spice, and family drama. For those who understand what it is like to be involved with the church and its beliefs. If these things are something you enjoy and understand, The Princess and the Pi’ should be on your to-be-read list.
