Blood & Breath
Evan has a secret. She is a Magi. She can summon devils,
which makes her a formidable opponent. Her people killed the Dun for their
skills. The Necros used to be the only people who could legally call a devil.
That has ended now. Dun and Necros can do it. Now there is a demand for
contracts that calm the devil.
They require a steady hand and knowledge of the devils.
That is why Evan makes contracts to summon devils. Those
contacts have power and enable Necros to rise against the devils. The Dun, who
were ordinary people, were freed and protected. But Magi were considered so
dangerous because people thought they were aligned with the devil. That is why
the Nervous killed the Magi.
Now, Evan was forced into a contract that she cannot get
out of, and once the contract is over, she is finished.
Evan seems like a trickster, but she is just trying to
survive. She must lie to keep herself alive.
Everyone around her does not know her family or skills.
Society forces her to keep secrets from her life. It also forces her to be
angry.
Her anger is justified because she is forced to be a forced
outsider. Those who ruled over her killed her family.
She thought that hiding it would save her, but it has not.
Despite everything, she had problems.
Now she has no choice but to choose violence to survive.
Now she is trying to keep her head down and stay out
untroubled. Which is difficult since she is at Mrs. Thrones’ Boarding House for
Women who need accommodation regularly. Mrs. Thorne wants nothing respectable
in her home.

My Thoughts
I have never read a book like this one before. It was
full of intrigue and fantasy. And a little romance. The storyline and plot were
engaging. But I liked the main character. Evan had secrets and talents that
were useful. I also marveled at her strength in keeping going after
experiencing trauma. Despite her assimilation into society, she wants revenge.
Who can blame her for that?
The betrayal was something I was not expecting, but it made
the book even more exciting. That is why I cannot wait to see what happens in
the book next. I give it three stars because of the slow pace in the beginning.
It was a captivating book.
Blood and Breath is a fascinating book for readers who enjoy
morally gray characters. Evelyn is not perfect, but he is trying to survive in
a dangerous time period. This book is also for those who love fantasy books
with romantic moments. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading the next
novel.
