A Book Review of 'A Forever Kind of Love' by Farrah Rochon.
Thank you, Netgalley, Dreamscape Media, and Farrah Rochon for sending me the advanced audio copy of ‘A Forever Kind of Love.’ I will give my honest opinion about the book.
Mya Dubois moved from Gauthier, Louisiana, to seek a Broadway career in New York. But now she is home and has to face the grief of losing someone. She also has to face family issues and an ex.
Mya has not seen Corey Anderson since high school. They had a teenage love affair filled with love, laughter, and wild nights. Mya left Corey after he betrayed her. Maya was shocked to learn Corey had changed since then.
Corey Anderson, like his family members, often broke rules and laws. He left Gauthier, too. He was a professional baseball player. Now he is back home and is teaching. He knew Mya would be home, but he did not realize that when they met, he would still have feelings for her.
Corey and Mya’s community and family keep them close. This reunion has tension but also sparks.
Triggers: Fatphobia, loss of a pregnancy, death of a loved one/ones, hospitalizations, parental abandonment, cheating in the past.
My thoughts
Marissa Hampton’s narration of each character in the book was excellent. Marissa had clear speech and good pacing throughout. The way she presented each character’s personality made the story authentic. Marissa also had a deep emotional connection to each character and their emotions.
I liked a trait that Mya has. She also establishes limits, which were needed with a relative. The family dynamics intrigued me through listening to the audiobook.
Mya had a close relationship with her grandparents and aunts. It was strange that Corey, her ex, was also in her family. I understood from the story why he could stay, even with Mya and Corey’s history. Corey betrayed her, and she still wasn’t over it. I understand why she distanced herself; it’s tough to trust someone after that. It put a strain on her relationship with Corey but enabled them to reunite.
Conclusion
I liked reading Mya and Corey’s story about their past relationship. The current relationship was strained because of betrayal and secrets. The author vividly portrayed Corey and Mya’s feelings. It showed how, even though heartache, people can change and become better. That is why I give the book a four-star rating.
It was heartwarming to read the author’s story about family and community. I would enjoy reading or listening to the next book in the series. This book is impressive for those who love stories and enjoy romantic novels that focus on community, second chances, and family.
