The holiday season is a busy time of year. We are usually on the go leading up to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and all of the other holidays we celebrate. But we need some time to relax by ourselves. We can also spend time with our families, and friends. To enjoy one of the many holiday movies that are streaming online or coming on cable.
This is why I compiled some of the best Holiday Black holiday movies. Some of them are classic films you may be familiar with and already love. Others may be something new you can watch. All of these movies bring joy and love. Which is what this season is about.
The Preacher's Wife
My first film is The Preacher's Wife. Based on the remake of The Bishop's Wife. This movie is different because it has a lot of music in it, and it is an all-Black cast.
The preacher's wife is played by the late Whitney Houston. The angel in the film is Denzel Washington. The preacher is Courtney B. Vance. There are so many good actors in this film which make it enjoyable to watch. The music sung by Whitney Houston of course is phenomenal.
The Kid Who Loved Christmas
The Kid Who Loved Christmas also has some musical scenes as well. The movie is about a young boy who is adopted by a loving couple played by Vanessa Williams and Michael Warren. Through a tragic event, Michael Warren is no longer able to keep the boy because of his job as a musician. The child is placed in foster care. Warren is determined to get the kid back with the help of a friendly social worker, played by Cicely Tyson.
This film is filled with musical talents such as Della Reese and Sammy Davis Jr. The late Charlie Murphey is also in the film.
Last Holiday is another favorite of mine. Queen Latifah plays a shy salesclerk at a department store. Queen Latifah has a crush on her coworker (LL Cool J). After suffering from an accident, Queen Latifah is told she is dying. Hince the title Last Holiday.
She decides to live her life to the fullest and finally take that trip she always wanted.
I love this film because it is a departure from most holiday movies. After all, the main character gets to travel. Also, I love how a plus size black woman finds love and romance without being shamed for her size.
This Christmas
This Christmas is more of a traditional Christmas movie. This one is about a matriarch Loretta Devine hosting a Christmas with all of her adult and teenage children. Lauren London, Chris Brown, Idris Elba, Loretta Devine, Regina King, Columbus Short, Mekhi Phifer, and Sharon Leal are in this movie. When the family gathers together, they realize that there are secrets and some scandals in the family.

Jingle Jangle
Jingle Jangle is a more recent film. A young girl stays with her grandfather who is a retired toy maker and inventor. The little girl tries to draw her grandfather out of retirement with one is his old inventions. The songs were written by John Legend.
I enjoyed some of the songs in the movie. I recommend this film for those who love musicals.
On Netflix
The Best Man Holiday
The sequel to The Best Man is a touching and funny movie. The same characters gather again. Lance (Morris Chestnut), Harper (Taye Diggs), Candace (Regina Hall), Quentin (Terrence Howard), Robyn (Sanaa Lathan), Jordan (Nia Long), Murch (Harold Perrineau), and Mia (Monica Calhoun). The friends gather together again this time for Christmas. As they celebrate together old feelings and resentments resurface.
The movie is great and gives those who loved the first movie a chance to see what they lives were like after 15 years. I love the soundtrack of this film and think it is perfect for the holidays.
A Christmas Winter Song
Clio (Ashanti) is a store owner who is not into Christmas since the passing of her beloved father. A homeless man named, Fred, changes that through their shared love of music.
As a music fan myself I enjoyed hearing Ashanti and Stan Shaw sing together. I wished they did more songs together in the movie.
A Dream for Christmas
A pastor moves his family from the South to a church in California. Once he gets there, he finds most of the congregation is leaving. The church is also being demolished.
I found this movie on youtube. I never heard of it before, but I did not enjoy watching it.

Ms. Scrooge
Cicley Tyson plays a Scrooge who works at a bank. She denies people loans and takes people houses. She is not the best or favorite person in town. One night a ghost from her past comes and tells her to change. Other ghosts come.
It is hard seeing Cicley Tyson play a mean woman, but she did a good job.

En Vogue Christmas
En Vogue reunites after years of not performer to host a concert for an old club they use to perform in. The owners of the club want them to perform in order to save it from being shut down. Old resentments and lies may cause the group to break up before they even perform again.

Amber Riley from Glee stars as a student who wants a family for Christmas. She decides to put an ad on Craig lists. Her wish helps her and four girls she mentors to have the best Christmas ever. This film is based on a true story.

The Christmas Pact
Two best friends (Kyla Pratt and Jordan Joseph) make a pact to always spend every Christmas together at their special place. They grow up and start living separate lives. They attempt to reunite every Christmas at their special place. Each time they come together their romantic feelings become stronger.
For those who love friend to lovers' movies this movie is perfect for you.
A Diva's Christmas
Vanessa Williams plays a scrooge diva singer who needs reminder about love and of Christmas. She is visited by ghosts of her past. The scenes with her and Chili are funny. I also enjoyed how her backup singers talk about her.
Christmas at Water's Edge
Keisha Knight Pullem plays a spoiled rich girl who gets a Christmas angel played by Pooch Hall to teach her the meaning of Christmas.
Black Nativity
A Baltimore teenager travels to New York to visit his grandparents. While there he learns about his family's past which may bring them back together.
