How to enjoy the holidays

How can I enjoy the holidays?

There are so many things that I love about Christmas. The lights and decorations we had for years some since my mom was a young child. But with the Holidays also come endless lines and too many gatherings. Not only that, but most people work during the holidays. This makes the month’s holidays stressful, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

I think the problem is that we do too much! We either go out too often or pack too many activities into one outing.

If you’re feeling the same way and wish to relax and savor the season, here are some steps to ensure a calming holiday.

Get goals

Have a plan of what events you want to attend. Accept those invitations. Those you do not want to attend decline as soon as possible. There’s no reason to go to places that you don’t like.

Have a small gathering.

If you are tired of feeling tired after a holiday get-together, try having a small intimate affair. This will allow you not to have to deal with all the cleanup and mess. It also allows you to spend time with your guests instead of being in the kitchen all day.

Don't shop until you drop.

I used to do all of my shopping in just one day. It was a family affair event where we tried to get our secret gifts and every other gift all in one day. That left all of us tired, and frustrated, and sometimes we still did not complete our shopping.

As we got older, we learned to get things months in advance to avoid the long lines or feeling overwhelmed. The closer it gets to the holidays; we have all our shopping done and can enjoy our time off.

Have a movie marathon.

Find some of your favorite Christmas or Holiday movies and watch them. You don’t have to go all out for this event.

Simply make some popcorn and grab your favorite autumn drink. Then just sit back and enjoy the movies with your friends, family, or yourself. Here are a few family-friendly movies you can watch:

The Polar Express

A Charlie Brown Christmas

A Christmas Carol

Meet me in St. Louis.

Christmas In Connecticut

Have small mini-events

If a large party isn’t your preference, you can opt for multiple smaller events. You have a tree trimming party one day and then a gift wrapping another day. This allows you to get together with your family and friends. It also makes these events seem less like a chore!

Go Local

For those doing a stay action, there are things you can do in or near your fun hometown. You can go to your local museum or historic sites. Some places are offering free or holiday discount tours because of the holidays.

Check out your local newspaper or watch local news to see what events you can attend. Also, do not forget about your local stores, festivals, or libraries for events.

Curl up and Read a book.

If the weather is too cold or wet for you to venture out, you can stay in and read a good book. I love to read holiday-themed books around this time of the year.

Game Night

Family game night is one of the many traditions I am glad we still do. Scrabble and Clue are just two games we love to play each year. We also like playing Ridley Games Room - Who am I? Nothing brings a family together than a little competition and of course, it does not hurt to have snacks either! Lol

Let’s go to the movies.

One of my favorite things to do is go to the movies. We love doing it because the lines are not as long and because it gets crammed sometimes indoors. There are a lot of family movies that you can see this time of year. Just don’t forget to get some popcorn or candy at the concession stand.

Bake Something

Good Housekeeping Walnut Crescents

You can bake some of your favorite treats for your family or even give them away as gifts. If you don't want to spend hours in the kitchen there are easy recipes you can try. What really matters is that you are spending time with your family in the kitchen.

Rest

Do it if you have time off and prefer to take a break. Spend your time resting and enjoying the days you have off. Sleep when you need it.
Take time to spend by yourself.
